Add More Cauliflower To Your Diet
Cauliflower (and Cauli Rice) is one of the best kept health secrets around. Your humble Cauli is rich in immune-boosting Antioxidants, Vitamin C and Sulphur (for those wishing to detox). It is Low-Carb, Low-GI (Glycemic Index), which means it’s great for diabetics trying to avoid blood sugar spikes. We just thought you should know.
What’s so super about Cauli Rice? look no further than the humble cauliflower. It may not appear very remarkable but, behind its modest exterior lurks a nutritional powerhouse: a ‘superfood’, no less!
Like most vegetables, cauliflower is low carb and low on the Glycaemic Index (‘Low GI’), meaning its sugars are released slowly into the bloodstream. You probably know that regulating blood sugar is fundamental to general health – that it helps prevent weight gain and, potentially, diabetes. But what’s so super about cauliflower that can’t also be claimed by other vegetables?
Well, apart from providing a mealtime alternative to high carb foods such as white rice, pasta or potatoes (when ‘riced’), cauliflower is considered a superfood due to its outstanding nutritional profile.
Cauliflower is exceptionally rich in immune-boosting antioxidants; it contains more vitamin C per 100g than an orange and has a range of protective plant compounds (such as quercetin, beta carotene and caffeic acid) that help to reduce oxidative stress in the body – a key risk factor for cancer.
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, tucking into cauliflower on a regular basis may also help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and alleviate symptoms of other chronic inflammatory – such as arthritis or inflammatory bowel conditions.
Add to this that its sulphur compounds support detoxification in the liver, and promote levels of beneficial bacteria in the gut, and you have a powerful argument for ensuring that cauliflower features regularly in your diet.
What’s not super about that?
